Casting Notice
Canadian film and television production company, SandBay Entertainment, is looking to speak with 2SLGBTQQiA+ farmers, farm-workers, and those individuals that live and work in rural farming spaces in Canada and the U.S. for a developing feature-length documentary. All ages welcome.

Those interested are encouraged to submit an introductory email to info@sandbayentertainment.com. Please include your name, contact information, preferred contact method, and a short informal biography.

This is a survey for youth, ages 14-25, to learn what health information resources Two-Spirit, transgender and non-binary youth in Canada need right now.

The study is titled: Addressing youth gender health information needs via participatory action research: Developing a research agenda and identifying knowledge mobilization priorities with Two-Spirit, transgender, and non-binary youth in Canada.

As part of this project, they will be creating new health information resources which will be freely available online. What they learn in this project will also help them plan future research studies. Youth who complete the survey can enter to win a $50 gift card.

PLEASE SHARE: We are interested in hosting our first in person event for rural 2SLGBTQIAP+ youth ages 18-29. We would like to first do a scan to see if there is enough genuine and committed interest in order to put this event on as the place we're considering having it at requires a large non refundable deposit. The event would be an overnight retreat from a Friday evening to a Sunday likely near Paris, Ontario the second or third weekend of November. The lodging and food for the weekend would be covered but the transportation would be the responsibility of the participant. If transportation is a barrier please let us know if there's something we can workout. Together during the weekend we would work to create a creative project that would be shared with the larger community. ROCQY is hosting a crash course related to our multimedia project for rural queer youth ages 16-29 to join. This will take place virtually on Zoom on Thursday evenings in July from 7-9pm (July 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th). Topics to be covered include interviewing, podcasting, photography, and videography.

At the end of this workshop series participants have the option to complete an interview with a rural queer person to be shared as part of our multimedia oral history project Queer Country Crossroads: Stories of Rural 2SLGBTQIAP+ Life.

Although the definition of rural for the multimedia project interviewees is towns under 30k the definition of rural for our youth programs is more expansive in it being those who have lack of access to queer specific resources due to their geographical area.

Call for submissions from rural 2SLGBTQ+ youth (we count youth as anyone 29 and under)

ROCQY is creating a zine to share rural 2SLGBTQ+ youth voices

A zine (pronounced zeen) is a self published work kind of like a magazine that is not designed to generate profit and has no set rules.

The themes are futures, love, community, and resilience. You can make one submission per theme.

We are looking for submissions of artwork, crafts, poetry, writing, collages, photography, crafts and anything else creative that you feel fits the themes.

You can make your submission by sending us a message on Facebook or Instagram or by emailing rocqyteam@gmail.com

The deadline to submit is July 31st

A final digital copy of the zine will be free to the public and a hard copy will be mailed to the participants

ROCQY is a collective of rural 2SLGBTQIA+ youth from across what is currently colonially known as Ontario. Created by and for rural and Northern 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, ROCQY was founded to address the barriers that rural 2SLBTQIA+ youth face in accessing mental health care. Together we work to build leadership skills, foster a sense of community, and address social justice issues. ROCQY meets with virtual synchronous gatherings and will have an in person gathering annually. ROCQY's purpose is for Two-Spirit, queer and trans youth to find community and grow!

Robyn Hodgson, RN currently leads the Trans and Non Binary Health program for London InterCommunity Health Centre, in London Ontario. As an openly Trans Feminine/Queer person she moved her career from primarily emergency and rural settings, to advocacy and direct provision of care of the gender diverse population. Recognizing her unique perspective and complementary skills set, she set forth to answer the call of youth who were asking for care from someone who was representative of their community. Robyn started her immersion through courses and then employment with Rainbow Health Ontario before relocating to her community of birth in 2019. Offering depth to her advocacy and experience , Robyn has previously served as a municipal a councillor, a period in hospital management, and subsequently advocating through provincial political engagement. Robyn is now also the current president of CPATH, the Canadian Association of Transgender Health.

Hey! My name's Riley McEntee. I was born and raised in Huntsville, then moved to North Bay when I was 19 to start university. I came out as trans at 17, in my last year of high school, and have since had a unique relationship with the Healthcare system; psyciatric interviews, starting hormone replacement therapy, and receiving top surgery are among them. I've also had several interactions in the Healthcare system not as a patient but as a bystander, a cog in the institution, as a security guard in the North Bay Regional Health Centre. I've experienced and seen first hand how transgender people's bodies are viewed, defined, and examined, and know for certain it has to change.

Carley (she/her) is a white queer woman living and working in Katarokwi (Kingston). She has recently begun working as the Social Worker for Kingston Community Health Centre's Transgender Health Program, where she works alongside a Nurse Practitioner to provide gender affirming care for service users across the South East region of Ontario. In her spare time, Carley enjoys ice skating, watching reality TV and tending to her 60+ houseplants.
